Did You Know?

Laura Ashley’s Lady Fern was born during the brand’s 1970s “Nature Revival” period — a decade defined by soft botanicals and meticulously hand-drawn detail. Its name nods to the Victorian craze for ferns, known as pteridomania, when fern motifs became a beloved symbol of domestic decoration. The artwork itself was likely rendered with fine Rotring technical pens, giving the design its crisp, etched character. Early print runs were created in small batches using surface and screen-printing, meaning subtle colour variations can occur between rolls — a charming hallmark prized by collectors today.
